The women will face Myanmar in their next match where a win should see them advance from the round robins.In classic chess at the Lorin Dwangsa Hotel Solo, it was an even battle of wits as the tie between Singapore\u2019s Edwin Tan and Philippines\u2019 Bilog Cecilio ended in a stalemate. Tan lost in his second round of the day to Dao Tuan Kiet of Vietnam 1-0. He will have a chance at victory in the final proceedings of standard chess tomorrow before moving on to rapid and blitz chess later in the week.\u00a0Another win for Singapore’s women’s goalball team should see them advance past the round robins stage. The duo were not able to advance through to the knockout stages for the men\u2019s class 1-3.Tan then fell to compatriot Ting Chee Keong in his second match of the day 3-1 under the men\u2019s singles class 1-2 round robin. The 57-year-old, who is the oldest para athlete representing Singapore in Solo, then rallied from the loss and won 3-0 against Thailand\u2019s Natthawut Thinatet for his final match of the day.\u00a0Elsewhere in the Tirtonadi Sports Hall, Singapore’s Fong Wei Cheng and Caleb Lee did not manage to advance past the knockout rounds of the men’s singles class 8. She followed it up with another resounding 8-2 win over Thailand\u2019s Juthamat Rattana. Another victory will see Ms Toh advance to the next round.Jeralyn Tan started off her campaign just as brightly, beating Touny Onemouy of Laos in a convincing 7-1 victory for the individual female BC1 round robin.\u00a0Elsewhere in the UNS Sports Center, Aloysius Gan and Gareth Ho lost their opening fixtures in individual male BC3 round robin.Singapore’s boccia para athletes won big in convincing victories. Muhammad Diroy Noordin and Maisarah Binte are waiting for the official confirmation of their events. If affirmed, Muhadmmad will secure a bronze medal as his javelin flew 26.18m across the air in Manahan International Stadium. Maisarah Mohamed missed out on the bronze for the women’s 100M T36\/37 final. In the tightest of margins, she clocked in at 17.290 –\u00a0 just a whisker behind Thailand\u2019s Suphatsara who snatched the bronze at 17.110.The attention will be on para archers Alex Lim and Nur Syahidah as well after the pair qualified to the elimination stages.
