OSIM uThrone Review

Homegrown health and wellness brand OSIM International introduced the world’s first gaming massage chair, OSIM uThrone in late December. The chair is priced at S$899 and here’s what I think of it.

Design

The chair is available in three colours – orange, blue and black. The orange version is branded with the uThrone logo whilst the blue and black is branded with the Predator logo as this version is a collaboration with multinational hardware and electronics company Acer. In terms of style, the uThrone does not pale in comparison to the other gaming chairs out there. My personal preference is the orange version as I find it very  striking and the orange mixes well with the black lines.

Comfort

The chair uses a PVC leatherette material that’s certified to be resistant to water, dust, light and humidity. It is however, slightly bulkier than the regular gaming chairs and much heavier, most likely due to the added massaging function. The chair is comfortable with armrests that can be repositioned and reclined up to 145°.

Functions

The right arm rest houses the controller unit. There are Bluetooth speakers built into the sides of the headrest and they provide decent quality sound, but nothing amazing. I feel that the best way to use the Bluetooth speakers is to connect it to your phone for music, while being massaged.

The massage quality on the uThrone is surprisingly good. There are three preset massage patterns available that target different types of aches and pains. The nodes and rollers are pre-programmed to move in a variety of ways and are specifically tailored to provides relief for a gamer’s back.

Power

The chair is powered through a regular power adapter. The power adapter cable isn’t that long and users should take extra care to remember where the cable is so as to not run over it with the chair.

Given the fact that a regular gaming chairs can cost upwards of S$700, the uThrone at S$899 is a gaming chair with a good built-in massager, which makes it a pretty good deal.
