It’s that time of the year when Spring is in the air and Winter makes a quick exit. March also brings lots of promises with new and recurring shows hitting the small screens. First off, we have Disney+ fuelling our obsession with true crime and con artists in The Dropout, which stars Amanda Seyfried playing a former American biotechnology entrepreneur who was convicted of criminal fraud. We also have Viu keeping us entertained with its chaotic South Korean hit TV reality show Sixth Sense. The long-awaited second season of Bridgerton will also debut on Netflix. Having hit sunny Singapore for a year now, Disney+ will be ending the month with a bang (quite literally too) with a new no-holds-barred Marvel superhero series The Moon Knight. Check out TheHomeground Asia’s recommendations on what to tune in to come March.Military Prosecutor DobermanThe up-and-coming South Korean legal drama stars princely Ahn Bo Hyun and Tale of the Nine Tailed’s Jo Bo-Ah as South Korean military prosecutors who chose the job for different reasons. The former is an indifferent prosecutor who aspires to find success and wealth, while the latter hails from a chaebol family and only becomes a prosecutor for revenge. It goes without saying this difference in goals makes their tension even more palpable. Military Prosecutor Doberman is now streaming on Viu.The DropoutIf you have binged on and enjoyed the documentary drama series Inventing Anna, highlighted in last month’s Watchlist, you just might be interested in this. Joining the wave of TV adaptations depicting the rise and falls of some notable startups, The Dropout stars Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes, a former American biotechnology entrepreneur who was convicted of criminal fraud. From her dreaming of heading to Stanford as a teenager to her studying in China, the Disney+ series will document the rise and falls of the Silicon Valley star who is now awaiting sentencing. The Dropout will be streaming on Disney+ from 3 March 2022.Pieces of HerBased on the 2018 novel of the same name by Karin Slaughter, the premise of Netflix’s edge-of-your-seat thriller series is all about hidden secrets and how when they are unrivaled, consequences beckon. Caught in a shooting at a local diner, police officer Andy Oliver (played by Bella Heathcote) witnessed her mother (Golden Globe Award winner and Primetime Emmy Award recipient Toni Collette) singlehandedly eliminated the threat with ease. Andy, then, goes on a wild goose chase as she digs into her mum’s ominous past and reexamines their mother-daughter relationship.Pieces of Her will be streaming on Netflix from 4 March 2022.Crazy LoveIn Disney+’s newest K-drama Crazy Love, Kim Jae-Wook plays Noh Go-Jin, a popular but narcissistic instructor as well as a genius CEO of a private education institute, while Krystal Jung is his hardworking secretary Lee Shin-A who is recently diagnosed with a terminal illness. As the latter sets out to plot her revenge on Go-Jin, whom she blames for her misfortune, he begins receiving death threats. With typical romance troupes, the two eventually develop a grizzly kind of romance for each other.Crazy Love will be streaming on Disney+ from 7 March 2022.How I Met Your Father: Season 1Hilary Duff is back in the highly anticipated sitcom series How I Met Your Father. Reimagined from the popular 2014 CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, the new stand-alone series centres on Sophie, the protagonist played by Duff, and her friends Jesse (Chris Lowell), Valentina (Francia Raisa), Charlie (Tom Ainsley), Ellen (Tien Tran) and Sid (Suraj Sharma) – who are all trying to navigate life.How I Met Your Father: Season 1 will be streaming on Disney+ from 9 March 2022.The Adam ProjectIn Netflix’s The Adam Project, Ryan Reynolds plays a time-travelling fighter pilot Adam Reed who somehow ends up taking a trip down memory lane as he revisits his past in 2022 where he meets his 12-year-old self. There’s a lot of hype behind this sci-fi film and many praised the trailer for calling to mind the old-school, sci-fi adventure films in the likes of 2005’s Zathura: A Space Adventure, Indiana Jones and Star Trek.The Adam Project will be streaming on Netflix from 11 March 2022.Sixth Sense 3South Korean hit variety TV show Sixth Sense is set to return for its third season in March. The chaotic and oft-times funny show initially promised fans that all of its cast members — Lee Sang-Yeob, Yoo Jae-Suk, Oh Na-Ra, Jun So-Min, Jessi, and Lovelyz’s Mijoo — from season 2 will return, but it was recently announced that So-Min will not be participating. According to Soompi, the actress had recently fractured her foot and is recovering from surgery. For the uninitiated, the variety TV show puts the cast members’ ‘sixth sense’ to the test by having them sniff out one false person or place or object from three leads through fun missions. Sixth Sense 3 will be streaming on Viu from 19 March 2022.Bridgerton: Season 2“Dearest gentle reader, did you miss me?” says Julie Andrews, who narrates as the series’ anonymous scandal-sheet author Lady Whistledown, in the opening trailer of Shonda Rhimes’ Bridgerton: Season 2. With its fair share of soapy drama, steamy scenes, alongside provocative storytelling and inclusive casting, the first season has received 12 Emmy nominations and was Netflix’s most viewed show, before Squid Game topped the charts.If you are a fan of enemies to love troupes, you are bound to fall for this. And yet with the announcement that the first season’s lead Regé-Jean Page has broken off from the series, the second season is poised to be centred on another Bridgerton sibling. This means the new season will likely pivot away from the romance between the Duke of Hastings and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor). Bridgerton: Season 2 will be streaming on Netflix from 25 March 2022.PachinkoBased on the 2017 New York Times bestseller by Min-Jin Lee, Pachinko chronicles the hopes and dreams of four generations of a Korean immigrant family. The epic show stars Academy-Award winner Youn Yuh-jung (who played Soon-Ja in Minari), Lee Minho and newcomer Minha Kim. The international search for the series lead took six to seven months and entails an auditioning process that was not a standard practice in South Korea.Pachinko will be streaming on Apple TV+ from 26 March 2022. March 26, 2022.Moon KnightAhead of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel Studios releases its next superhero series Moon Knight on Disney+. It features Marc Spector (Oscar Issac), who is a former mercenary with dissociative identity disorder (DID). The trailer, which is chaotic and almost too surreal, hints at Spector becoming a conduit for the ancient Egyptian moon god Khonshu, who is capable of granting humans powerful abilities. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, this Marvel Phase 4 TV show is going to be “brutal” and the producers aren’t “pulling back”. With only six episodes, Moon Knight will end on May 11, five days after Doctor Strange 2 hits the theatres.
