How well do you really know our city? There’s really no better time to start exploring our very own little red dot! From checking out popular attractions and hiking to hunting down Instagram-worthy vintage shops, there’s so much you can see and do.
If we had to pick one particular activity that has soared high on the popularity charts? That’d be none other than staycations, a 2D1N or 3D2N stay that dangles the promise of an escape from the usual routine. Do a quick search and there are plenty of staycation options to choose from – whether you’re gunning for a luxury package, or looking to jazz up your stay with something different, there’s something for everyone!
Glam up your staycation experience
However, not all staycations have to be confined to the four walls of a room. In fact, why not check glamping off your list?
Known as glamorous camping, glamping allows one to sleep in a tent outdoors – without having to sacrifice any of one’s usual creature comforts. Glamping tents aren’t just any old tents, mind you; many come with large beds, cushions, and more! And by sleeping under a blanket of stars at night, who’s to say you haven’t opened the gateway to having your very own thousand-star hotel experience?
Kampong G(e)lamping @ MHC
Just last week, the Malay Heritage Centre came up with ‘Kampong G(e)lamping @ MHC, a glamping option at the former Kampung Gelam palace grounds. Available from 15 to 24 December 2020, the package comprises a 2D1N stay in luxurious tents. The location well befits the occasion as well; the former Istana Kampung Gelam was once home to a palace, where Malay sultans in Singapore previously resided!
Each night will only accept one booking of five, with the group being able to enjoy two sprawling tents all to themselves. One tent will hold two queen-sized beds, as well as a hammock; the other functions somewhat as a private cinema, boasting a 92-inch projector screen, speaker, and bean bags. And in case you’re worried about the heat, both tents even come with a portable fan and air-conditioning unit!
Unique accommodation, fitness, heritage, local cuisine – all rolled into one
That’s not all: the accommodation is only part of the experience. Complete the stay with an outdoor cooking session and local dinner of Malay specialities dishes by your very own private chef. You’ll even get the chance to explore the heritage area whilst accompanied by a guide. Other activities include a beginners yoga session in the morning of the second day, as well as a guided tour of MHC’s permanent galleries and special exhibitions.
The entire experience costs $450 per group of five. Bookings opened on 23 October on a first-come-first-serve basis, which sold out entirely within six minutes! A giveaway for one slot will be held on their Facebook and Instagram pages; however, in the meantime, here are some other glamping options to check out in Singapore:
