Life After COVID: Tania the Spanish Dancer

  • Follow the lives of eights artists in Singapore as they reveal how COVID-19 has affected them and how they adapted to it. This is the story of Tania the Spanish Dancer.

Tania is not just a dancer, she also runs her own arts management company—SaltShaker Productions and has worked on award-winning musicals and performances like MAMMA MIA!, The Lion King, M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival and more.

She began pursuing the art of flamenco as a Spanish Language student in Adelaide, Australia. The language exposed her to Spanish history and culture, which enthralled her.

Back in Singapore after her studies, Tania spent a couple of years with the Singapore Tourism Board before heading off to Spain for a sabbatical. During her travels, she chanced upon a dance studio, nestled in a quiet street in Seville, where she truly discovered her passion for the dance, music, and rhythm—at the Academia De Manuel Betanzos.

They conducted workshops around Asia Pacific together, visiting countries such as Sydney, Hong Kong, and Tokyo until the pandemic hit. Tania was stranded in Spain as the country went into lockdown; the workshops stopped, and the academy was closed.

She took advantage of the downtime to work on projects that were in the works for several years. She also converted Manuel’s workshops to online classes and pushed it out to countries they could not reach before physically. Find out how pivoting to digital platforms helped Tania in this episode of Life After COVID.
