The four-day event from 24 to 27 September organised by the Japan Esports Union (JeSU) is set to find Japan’s top gamers to represent the country at the Esports Championship East Asia tournament to be held in South Korea later this year.

The selection process comes with prizes totalling 5 million yen.

Games and players in competition

There are four games that contenders will be participating in: eFootball Winning Eleven (Pro Evolution Soccer 2021), PUBG, Clash Royale and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition.

Each game has clear fan favourites competing as well. Look out for Kodansha Gekisaka FC with its star player Mayageka, a consistently top PES player in the past few years, at the Winning Eleven tournament.

Team SunSister are frontrunners for the online multiplayer battle royale, PUBG. They were PUBG Japan Series champions in Season 4, Phase 2, and Season 5 and 6, Phase 1.

For Clash Royale, JACK will be the one to look out for. The 20-year-old has 8,475 trophies to his name, and managed to finish in second runner-up positions last year at the 2019 Clash Royale League World Finals.

Street Fighter V (SFV) will prove to be one of the most promising and competitive tournaments at this weekend’s event. The competition will see some of esports’ biggest gaming names, include 2019 Evo campion Masato “Bonchan” Takahashi, 2018 Capcom Cup champion Tsunehiro “gachikun” Kanamori, and legends Daigo “The Beast” Umehara and Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi.

Catching the action ‘live’ and on repeat

With COVID-19 limiting the gathering of large crowds, the tournament venue has been closed off to spectators. Fans, however, can still catch the action as they will be streamed on Twitch, YouTube, and OpenRec. ‘Live’ broadcasts will be uploaded once the tournaments are over.

The game to catch will be the SFV tournaments. Qualifiers will take place today (25 September) from 3 to 7 p.m. (GMT+8), and the finals are scheduled for Sunday (27 September) from 5 to 8 p.m. (GMT +8).
