Fill Me In
Local homegrown brand PRISM+ has just launched their smart 4K Android TVs at affordable prices. The smart TVs run on the official Android TV operating system, which allows for access to 5,000 Google Play apps, and runs as part of the Google Assistant ecosystem.
The PRISM+ Q Series is the first homegrown TV brand to be approved to run on the official Android TV operating system, a great feat for a company that only started its TV line-up less than a year ago.
At the media launch of the PRISM+ Q Series, Marcus Wee, co-founder of PRISM+ shared that the steps in obtaining a license to manufacture the Android operating system on their TVs was no easy feat. “While we do have a non-disclosure agreement on how we obtained the license, it did involve [PRISM+] having to make a significant commitment in manufacturing numbers,” he said.
Android TV features
The Q Series Android TVs runs on the official version of the Android Operating System; Android 9.0. Apps downloaded via the Google Play Store are fully optimised to be used on the TVs.
The 5,000 apps available include frequently used ones that pair well with a 4K HD TV – Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime, Spotify, Twitch, Plex HBO Go, Airscreen, and CNN are just some that are included in the line-up. For convenience, Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime come preloaded on the Q Series with just one click of a button on the remote control.
The built-in Chromecast function will seamlessly broadcast content from smartphones and laptops to the Q Series TVs with ease and without the loss of output resolution that happens with traditional screen mirroring. Users just need to ensure their smartphone or laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and select the Cast function on the Android TV.
The Chromecast function also lets the Android TV connect to other Google devices while on the same Wi-Fi network to be part of the Google smart home system.
Google Assistant ecosystem
Enable the smart home system with Google Assistant, which has its own button on the remote control. Verbalise commands, such as “Hey Google, play Stranger Things on Netflix”, to activate and navigate functions on the Android TV. The feature is great for those who are less digitally-savvy or for those who already rely on voice assistants for their daily activities.
The Google Assistant can also be activated on smartphones (available on Android and iOS) and be used with the Android TVs to perform other functions like play music on Spotify as well.
Pricing
Prices for the PRISM+ Q Series start at $699 for the 55”, $999 for the 65”, and $1,599 for the 75”. Orders can be placed directly on prismplus.sg/tvs or on lazada.sg/shop/prism-plus.
