Professional Street Fighter V player Kun “Xian” Ho recently won at the Capcom Pro Tour Southeast Asia 2 Qualifier, securing his spot at the Capcom Cup for the seventh year in a row.

Xian’s victory

Winning the qualifier was not an easy feat for Xian. The Team Razer player fought a nail-biting battle against Gavrel “Bravery” Saw, who eliminated him in the first CPT Southeast Asia qualifier.

Xian opted to use Street Fighter’s Seth in his battle during the CPT Southeast Asia 2 online event and managed to pull a clean sweep into the winners’ side. Bravery also pulled through to the winners’ side but lost 0-3 to Xian during the winners’ final match.

However, Bravery managed to battle his way to the grand final for a rematch against Xian.

The start of the match saw Xian maximise the potential of Seth’s V-Trigger II, which easily won him the first game. Bravery won the next match after a costly missed combo opportunity by Xian. The win was enough to push Bravery into playing more aggressively, as he thew Cannon Spikes and Spiral Arrows towards Xian.

With the match now standing at 2-1 in favour of Xian, Bravery pulled out all the stops to control the stage by trapping Xian in a corner, forcing a bracket reset.

The reset was what Xian needed to figure out Bravery’s playstyle. By throwing more Dragon Punches at Bravery’s Cammy, Xian was able to turn the tables on Bravery, neutralising his air-game. Subsequently, Bravery missed his divekick inputs, putting him in a 0-2 deficit.

At the third game, Bravery pulled off an all-out assault for the two players to reach match point. This is where Xian made his own unbelievable comeback, landing a V-Trigger II mix-up that ended with a Critical Art finish.

Xian and the Capcom Cup

This qualifier win puts Xian in the final running for the Capcom Cup for the seventh time since the tournament was first hosted in 2014. Xian, who is also Evo Champion 2013, has come close to winning as runner-up to Yusuke “Momochi” Momochi in 2014, and placing third behind Ryota “Kazunoko” Inoue and Daigo “The Beast” Umehara in 2015.

What is the Capcom Cup?

The Capcom Pro Tour (CPT) is the premier league destination for competitive fight games featuring the flagship title of the Street Fighter series. The CPT is a global championship event with 18 online events open to players worldwide.
