New Bites: 4 Newly Opened Restaurants in December 2020

Singapore has officially entered Phase 3 which allows an increase of eight people in a gathering from the initial five. As we continue to maintain social distancing measures, this also means we can include three more friends into our lunch plans!

Our list of newly opened food establishments in December includes two kinds of international cuisine and two spaces serving the best of local food. While travel is still up in the air, we hope this cures a bit of your wanderlust and encourages you to #SupportLocal too. Here are the four restaurants to check out in Phase 3:

FellasCube

From the creators of Kopifellas, a locl coffee brand that grew from one to three stalls have now launched a new hawkerbistro that’s perfect for a morning or evening with friends and family.

Adding a modern twist to the kopitiam, FellasCube keeps the heritage alive by serving up local Nanyang kopi and local delicacies with a refreshing take. Breakfast is best spent digging into fragrant freshly-roasted kopi and unique toast flavours such as matcha milk toast and earl grey milk toast, while dinner is served with their local craft beer.

Picanhas’

A restaurant named after a prized part of the cow located at the rump cap muscle, meat lovers can expect this Brazilian steak at the Singapore’s hip neighbourhood Club Street. With the tagline “Steaks for the People”, its local founder Shaleh Jati believes their picanha should be enjoyed in good company.

There are two signature bowls: Queen of Steaks costs $21 has steak slices drizzled with browned charcoal butter while Picanha Don is a hearty meal of steak slices served with butterfly pea infused rice and sides of deep-fried crunchy garlic bits, caramelised onions, pickled cabbage, and onsen egg.

555 Halal Thai

When local fashion designer well known in the wedding circuit was looking for a wedding hall at Gallop Kranji Farm Resort, little did Fatimah Mohsin know that she would venture into the F&B scene. The calm atmosphere away from the noise of city life would be the location for 555 Halal Thai, her first restaurant that opened earlier this month.

Serving a variety of hawker food in an open concept-styled establishment surrounded by greenery, the restaurant’s signature food is more than 50 Thai dishes prepared specially by a Thai chef including Thai steamboat and Gong Gong Rebus. Also on sale at this location is The Original Pisang Keju (TOPK) which opened its second outlet of its famous hot and crispy Pisang Keju (cheese banana fritters) fresh from the oven.

The White Label

The travel lockdown may have you dreaming of faraway places and international food, so let this new halal restaurant take you away to the city of lights. The White Label opens this month with an array of French foods combined with a local twist.

Say bon appétit as you dig into these French classics like duck confit and short ribs bourguignon, as well as the squid ink spaghetti that infuses the local Malay flavour. Finish off with tempting confections with very French names like Tres Berries Souffle Pancake and Tarte Au Citron Vert to complete the oh là là experience.
