Nur Syahidah Binte Alim hit the mark for Team Singapore when she finished top of her qualification group this afternoon at the 2022 ASEAN Para Games in the Lapangan Kota Barat stadium.

The archer shot an individual score of 688, topping the group of 11 contestants. Her sharp shooting skills earned her a bye in the elimination round of eight, advancing directly to the next round of four for the women’s individual para archery compound open.

Compatriot para archer Lim Qi Mao shot an individual score of 601, finishing in the 12th place, qualifying for the elimination round of eight for the men’s individual para archery compound open.

After a dazzling opening ceremony at the Manahan Stadium, athletes burst into action for APG 2022 on day two. Eighteen of Team Singapore’s para athletes participated across five sporting events.

Singapore’s women goalball team edged its Indonesia opponents 6-4 in a hard fought victory. The team consisted of five para athletes, two of whom are sisters Inez and Joan Hung. Unfortunately, the team lost 9-5 to Thailand in its second encounter of the day.

Singaporeans Aloysius Gan Kai Hong and Gareth Ho Jin Rui squared off in the individual male round robins for boccia. Gan edged out his fellow countryman Ho 4-2. But team mates Neo Kah Whye and Tan Yee Ting Jeralyn did not reach their full potential when they were beaten by De Leon Joey from the Philippines and Indonesia respectively.

It was also a rough outing for Team Singapore’s men and women para table tennis as they were defeated in the nine fixtures played.

Other events that took place in sunny Solo were wheelchair basketball, CP football, para badminton, and sitting volleyball.

Day three of the APG 2022 will see the start of the para athletics and para swimming events. All eyes will be on Sophie Soon as she looks to follow up her second-place finish in women’s 100m breaststroke SB12 at the World Para Swimming Championships in June 2022, with a gold finish in Solo.
