When you’re a kid, the world is your oyster. And if you’re a parent with a young one, you want to give your kid the world. In Singapore, that used to be easy to achieve, with an endless plethora of family-friendly activities to choose from. These days, this list has shrunken, not just to keep our family safe, but to keep other families secure.

If you’re running out of ideas and need new ones to create meaningful experiences with your kids, this one’s for you.

At home

Create art. Art doesn’t only have to live in a museum, and this local start-up helps you show your kids that truth. Their newly launched ‘Art at Home’ lesson plans allow the little ones to enjoy creating beautiful paper sculptures from scratch, while learning the values of self-confidence, patience, and creative expression.

From The Little Mermaid to the Solar System, the kit comes with easy-to-understand instructions for a fun family activity – a great way to keep the entire household engaged.

Price: $30-$35 per lesson plan

Baking. Prefer hanging out in the kitchen? Check out these unique baking kits instead, featuring some of Singapore’s most popular local recipes. All ingredients come pre-packaged, so all your little ones need to do is follow the attached recipe to create little Kueh Dadars’, Egg Tarts’, and more. Most recently, the start-up has started offering virtual bake-offs — bringing their most beloved baking workshops online.

Price: $20-$75, depending on the baking kit

Free outdoor activities

Sentosa. In honour of National Day, Sentosa is offering Free Sentosa Fun Passes (20 tokens) — available upon signup — to visit attractions like the Singapore Cable Car and the Trick Eye Museum. While stocks last, it’s a good deal to enter the State of Fun and indulge in the island life for free. Valid till 31 March 2021.

Canopy Park. Also a sight to behold at night, the Canopy Park has free entry available for redemption up till 30 September 2020.

Promotion for passion card holders: Canopy Park adminssion for just $3, and 5% off Singapore Resident admission rates to all attractions. Valid till 30 October 2020.

Ongoing promotions

Sky Park by AJ Hackkett Sentosa Giant Swing. Have a kid who is an intrepid daredevil? Hurtle towards the horizon at 120 km/h, and watch Siloso Beach rush up to greet you for a heart-stopping moment that you’ll not soon forget. With a discount of 52% and a free kid’s meal thrown in, the family pack is a steal for a fun day at the beach.

Promotion from Singaporediscovers: $99, bookable at https://store.sentosa.com.sg/main/attractions. Valid till 31 October 2020.

Nestopia. For some action-packed, but less electrifying outdoor fun, explore the unique open-air play space that is Nestopia, also situated on Siloso Beach. With netted obstacles and some of the longest slides on Sentosa, the playground is a shoo-in for another great family experience.

Promotion from Singaporediscovers: Make reservations by emailing [email protected] and quote “STBNESTOPIA”, to enjoy three tickets for the price of two. Valid till 31 December 2020.

Universal Studios Singapore (USS). It’s ‘lights, camera, action’ at Southeast Asia’s only Hollywood theme park. Explore its iconic rides and kid-friendly shows leading up to Halloween; if you’re an adult, you’ll get a free exclusive Halloween mask while your child gets a free Halloween bucket for some classic trick-o-treating.

Promotion from Singaporediscovers: Adult – $66 (U.P. $81), Child – $58 (U.P. $61). Freebies redeemable directly from the Universal Studios Store at USS. Valid till 1 November 2020.

Wild Wild Wet. Feeling hot? Splash around to your heart’s content in the Shiok River with the young ones, or swoosh down the 18-metre-high Torpedo slide for older children craving that adrenaline rush. Still one of Singapore’s premier water attractions, Wild Wild Wet guarantees a fun-filled day to keep cool and invigorated.

Promotion from Wild Wild Wet: $15 day passes. Valid till 31 October 2020.

Snow City. Another activity to beat the heat – tube down icy slopes or vigorously make snow angels at Singapore’s only permanent indoor snow centre. It’s perfect for a chilly winter extravaganza.

Promotion from Snow City: 30% off 1-hour or 2-hour Snow Play tickets. Valid till 30 September 2020.

Airzone. Want to walk on air, suspended up to 6-storeys high? Float your way through the world’s only elevated indoor playground, and feel yourself sink and bounce with every step past colourful inflated balls and inclined mazes. An entertaining workout for all ages.

Promotion from Airzone: Enjoy admission for two at the price of one on weekdays – $35 (U.P. $40). Valid till 30 September 2020.

Promotion from BYKidO: Purchase the eVoucher at $5 to enjoy 50% off Single Weekday Entry fees. Valid till 31 December 2020.

Staycation packages

The best way to unwind is still to take a couple of days off from the concrete jungle. Many hotels are offering sweetened travel packages; why not treat your family to one such luxury vacation?

If you’re looking for a kid-friendly favourite, check out the Shangri-La. It also features the first experiential play space for children in Singapore – buds by Shangri-La.

Promotion from Singaporediscovers: Make reservations at buds by emailing [email protected] and quote “STBBUDS”, to enjoy three tickets for the price of two. Valid till 31 October 2020.
