While the COVID-19 pandemic may have put a damper on many school holiday programmes, Team Nila still managed to hold a 2D1N urban sport holiday camp –Outlast Outdoor – as part of ActiveSG’s Year-End School Holiday (YEAH) Programme. Team Nila is the volunteering arm of ActiveSG that promotes a culture of giving, citizenship partnership and social cohesion through sport.

What went on at Outlast Outdoor

The camp was conducted at five ActiveSG Sport Centres islandwide, and saw 32 families and a total of 125 participants joining the programme. The camp lived up to its reputation as one for all ages, with the youngest and oldest participants being four and 69 years old respectively.

The jampacked camp was full of fun intergenerational bonding activities for parents and children. Archery, inline skating, sleeping out in tents, urban farming, and outdoor cooking were just some of the interesting ones available for participants. There was even a campfire that added to charm of the urban camp!

Safe measures for a good time

This is the first camp organised by Team Nila since the transition into Phase Two. The camp organisers ensured that participants adhered to Sport Singapore’s Safe Management Measures – participants had to stay within their respective family nucleus, and families could not mingle with each other as well during the duration of the camp. Temperatures had to be taken thrice daily and participants were required to sanitise their hands after each activity as well.

Despite the strict social distancing rules, participants still found the camp enjoyable. “This camp was very meaningful and impactful for my family,” shared Sean Chia, a father of two, and a participant of the camp. “We are thankful to have this camp, as we could bond through sport.”
