Singaporeans, rejoice! Did you know that the month of May has as many as three public holidays? The first is coming up this weekend – there is no better time to start planning:

1. Golden Village’s choose-your-own-adventure movie

Remember Netflix’s Bandersnatch? Part of the popular Black Mirror series, Bandersnatch was an innovative venture which allowed the audience to basically pick which way they wanted the story to flow. The movie would pause at certain key junctures, giving the viewer the opportunity to choose between two options – with each story arc tailored to fit individual choices.

Golden Village’s ‘Late Shift’ is a similar venture, comprising an interactive crime thriller that can be ‘customised’ with a mobile app. Before the start of the movie, the audience should download the CltrMovie app, and use it to scan a QR code that will be displayed on the big screen. At select times during the movie, two options will pop up on the movie screen, prompting viewers to make their choice. The choices will only be available for a few seconds – so fastest fingers first! The majority vote will then decide which way the movie will go.

Tickets are going for $13 (weekday) and $15, with showings available from 22nd April 2021.

2. Mini museums in Kampong Glam

Walk down memory lane and immerse yourself in old-time nostalgia at seven mini museums that have popped up in the district of Kampong Glam. Keep your eyes peeled for small wooden cabinets containing heritage items (Think: a 40-year-old pair of scissors.) in front of seven shopfronts.

Rolled out by the National Heritage Board (NHB), each shop has at least three decades of history. The mini museums are thoughtfully curated by NHB and the respective shop owners. Take the chance to learn about shops in the F&B business: One touts secret recipes that have been passed down through generations; two shops sell items that aid with the Haj pilgrimage; a cosy perfumery; and a local haberdashery. This initiative was first rolled out in Balestier last year, and will be introduced to other districts in time to come.

3. Rewritten: The World Ahead of Us

Have you embarked on the famous Coast-to-Coast hiking trail, which stretches from one end of Singapore to the other? If you have not, there is no better time to visit than now! See if you can spot 14 gorgeous text-based art installations in eight nature parks that are nestled along the route.

These artworks are type-based, perfect for typography lovers. Commissioned by the Public Art Trust, the artworks dwell on the changes that we have had to endure since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Seen as ‘visual poetry’, some installations also invite interaction, like curling up in a regenerative seed pod. Some notable exhibits include the neon With Dual Possibilities, Anamorphic Vibes that feature words spelt out using multi-hued thread, and the large BOND which comprises a four-part poem.

4. #Instawalk
