Team Singapore’s Ang Chee Hiong started his 2022 ASEAN Para Games fighting valiantly against Indonesia’s Hikmat Ramdani but ultimately went down 2-0. He will look to recover from today’s defeat to secure another win tomorrow against his opponent Teamarrom Siripong from Thailand.

The women’s goalball team from Singapore beat Laos in a convincing 9-4 victory. The women will face Myanmar in their next match where a win should see them advance from the round robins.

In classic chess at the Lorin Dwangsa Hotel Solo, it was an even battle of wits as the tie between Singapore’s Edwin Tan and Philippines’ Bilog Cecilio ended in a stalemate. Tan lost in his second round of the day to Dao Tuan Kiet of Vietnam 1-0. He will have a chance at victory in the final proceedings of standard chess tomorrow before moving on to rapid and blitz chess later in the week.

It was a jam packed day for Team Singapore’s para table tennis athletes at the Tirtonadi Sports Hall.

The pairing of Tan Kok Leong and Muhammad Dinie fell 2-1 to its Vietnamese opponents in the round robins. The duo were not able to advance through to the knockout stages for the men’s class 1-3.

Tan then fell to compatriot Ting Chee Keong in his second match of the day 3-1 under the men’s singles class 1-2 round robin. The 57-year-old, who is the oldest para athlete representing Singapore in Solo, then rallied from the loss and won 3-0 against Thailand’s Natthawut Thinatet for his final match of the day.

Elsewhere in the Tirtonadi Sports Hall, Singapore’s Fong Wei Cheng and Caleb Lee did not manage to advance past the knockout rounds of the men’s singles class 8. Claire Toh and Christina Lau also did not advance out of the robin robins for women’s team class 1-3.

Rounding off proceedings for Team Singapore were the boccia para athletes.

It was an eventful day at the UNS Sports Center as Singapore’s Toh Sze Ning beat Yulia Widya Pangestika of Indonesia in a thumping 7-0 victory for the female BC3 round robin. She followed it up with another resounding 8-2 win over Thailand’s Juthamat Rattana. Another victory will see Ms Toh advance to the next round.

Jeralyn Tan started off her campaign just as brightly, beating Touny Onemouy of Laos in a convincing 7-1 victory for the individual female BC1 round robin.

Elsewhere in the UNS Sports Center, Aloysius Gan and Gareth Ho lost their opening fixtures in individual male BC3 round robin.

All the action and effort from Team Singapore’s para athletes across the day yielded in a total of three medals.

Eyes will be returning to Manahan International Stadium tomorrow morning. Muhammad Diroy Noordin and Maisarah Binte are waiting for the official confirmation of their events. If affirmed, Muhadmmad will secure a bronze medal as his javelin flew 26.18m across the air in Manahan International Stadium. Maisarah Mohamed missed out on the bronze for the women’s 100M T36/37 final. In the tightest of margins, she clocked in at 17.290 –  just a whisker behind Thailand’s Suphatsara who snatched the bronze at 17.110.

The attention will be on para archers Alex Lim and Nur Syahidah as well after the pair qualified to the elimination stages. Syahidah topped her qualifying ground with a score of 688 and will be looking to add another medal to her personal collection after winning two golds in 2015 ASEAN Para Games in Singapore.
