Every year, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) sounds its Important Message signal, one of three signals that informs Singaporeans of an important broadcast.
Made through the public warning system, this sounding exercise will take place on Tuesday, 15 September 2020 at 6.20pm. In a statement released to the media, SCDF preempts the population not to be alarmed by the signal that will last for one minute.
It can also be heard via the SGSecure app for mobile users who do not have their phones on silent or vibration mode. A short text on the sounding of the public warning system will appear after the user acknowledges the message. Otherwise the signal ends automatically after 20 seconds.
SCDF shared that it executes this exercise to allow the public to familiarise themselves with the public warning system and be aware of how to react when the signal sounds. In this case, the public can listen in to any local radio station or watch any free-to-air Mediacorp TV channels for a brief message.
