Fill Me In
From 1 October, SMRT taxis will replace their mobile display terminals used by cabbies to accept jobs with a Grab Driver app. The app, jointly developed by SMRT and Grab, will enable SMRT drivers to manage their earnings, and receive jobs from SMRT’s booking system, street hails, as well as the Grab platform.
With the app, drivers can also start their taxi meter when they take street hail jobs, and control their rooftop signs when they have a passenger onboard, thereby removing the need to toggle between their phone and the taxi’s display terminal. Bookings will be assigned to drivers intelligently with Grab’s allocation technology.
SMRT Roads president Tan Kian Heong said: “We have been working with Grab on this project for a year now. This new system will seamlessly integrate Grab’s driver app with our street hail system, providing convenience and more job opportunities to our taxi partners.”
Simple login process for drivers
SMRT taxi drivers simply need to login to the Grab Driver app from their mobile devices, complete the verification process by signing in to SMRT’s driver portal to identify them as a SMRT driver to get their accounts activated.
Web-based portal for SMRT to streamline operational needs
In addition to the app for drivers, Grab has also designed and developed a web-based fleet operations platform, which enables SMRT to supervise and control their entire dispatch and fleet operations from a central portal. SMRT operations officers seamlessly perform functions, such as register new vehicles in the fleet, suspend errand drivers and customers quickly, and send in-app notifications to drivers should the need arise.
Shorter waiting time for SMRT passengers
SMRT passengers will also stand to benefit from the launch of this app, as they can also expect shorter waiting times for their drivers once their call bookings are successfully allocated by the Grab platform.
SMRT has also released a short video explaining the new app:
