The announcement earlier this week that Singapore would return to phase two restrictions from tomorrow, 8 May, has definitely put a dampener on some of our activities this weekend, especially for those who have plans to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Nonetheless, while adhering to tightened measures around social gatherings, that is keeping groups to five persons and having no more than two gatherings a day, we can still celebrate the superwomen in our lives, this weekend. So keeping in mind that not all superheroes wear capes, let us pamper our mothers silly.

1. Brunch or High Tea

Treat your mother to a sumptuous brunch or lunch this Mother’s Day! Be spoilt with plenty of options all across the island: Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa is pulling out all the stops with an ABBA-themed brunch, with Mums eating free with every three paying adults. Capitol Kempinski Hotel’s 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung is going all out with a six-course Mother’s Day A la Carte brunch, or dig into a hearty steak with Bedrock Bar & Grill’s four-course Mother’s Day set lunch menu.

Alternatively, pamper your mothers with an indulgent high tea! Unleash your feminine side with Hilton Singapore D9 Cakery’s All-Pink Afternoon High Tea, with Mum dining free with an order of two high tea sets. Check out the Instagram-worthy afternoon high tea set at Anti:dote; or dine with a view at Skai, which is perched on the 70th floor of the Swissotel.

2. Night Safari: evening in the wild

Get wild this Mother’s Day with a fun-filled evening at the Night Safari! Relive your childhood memories by embarking on a private chartered tram, and seeing if you can spot any of the elusive night creatures. After your animal encounter, sit down for an extravagant four-course gourmet dinner, which will be staged in a beautiful lakeside tipi-tent.

The four delicious courses come paired with four glasses of accompanying wines – think: an Italian Tintoretto Prosecco Rose, the French Bordeaux Chateau Senilac Haut Medoc, and more. Keep your eyes peeled for animals around you – you never know which furry friends might want to crash your party!

3. Gardens By the Bay: get crafty session

(Source: Gardens By the Bay)

Immerse yourself in a garden oasis – in full air-conditioned comfort! – at Gardens By the Bay, where you can engage in a hands-on activity with their Get Crafty Session. Available at S$12 per pax on 8 May 2021, the activity is perfect as a bonding session with Mum. Work your magic with a frame and a packet of dried flowers, which you can transform into a gorgeous floral art frame. Each session lasts for 10 minutes, and is available every half hour from 10.30am to 1pm – book your slots here.

Whilst you are at Gardens By the Bay, why not drop by the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, as well? Take the opportunity to wander the lesser-known outdoor gardens too, such as the Sun Pavilion, Heritage Gardens, The Canyon, or the Serene Garden.

There is also a fantastical glass art exhibition on now in the Gardens, called Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom. Read more about it here.

4. A workshop

Buy experiences, not things. This Mother’s Day, why not take the usual flowers and chocolates up a notch, and check out some activities or workshops that you can do with your Mum? Go for a pottery class, have a kombucha making session, emboss your own leather products, create beautiful resin coasters, attend a mindfulness workshop, produce a preserved flower dome, dabble in making terrariums, try your hand at mixing candles… the list goes on.

Other than workshops, you can also go on a sidecar jaunt around various districts in Singapore, be a tourist in our own country on a river cruise along Clarke Quay, go on a tour of the local Tiger Beer Brewery – that comes complete with a beer tasting at the end! – and so much more.
