2021 is finally upon us. Have you made your New Year resolutions?

For one, I know I am planning to catch the latest blockbusters in theatre after the long gruelling period of time at home. The immersive experience in cinematic theatre indeed takes film watching to a whole new level. Let’s start the year by supporting local theatres with our family and friends!

Here’s a list of films perfect to start your January with.

The Rescue (Mandarin)

Starring Eddie Peng, The Rescue is the third instalment that pays homage to Chinese public personnel. While the first film, Operation Mekong (2016), features the policemen, the second film, Operation Red Sea (2018), showcases the navy’s prowess, The Rescue illustrates the personal and professional lives of personnel from China Rescue & Salvage, the Chinese Ministry of Transport.

Captain Gao Qian (Eddie Peng) leads a team to search for survivors after an explosion at sea. The film has succinctly accentuated the perils of the job as these professionals put their lives on line for their duty.

In theatres 31 December 2020.

I Remember (Mandarin)

A romance film, I Remember stars Angelababy as Xi Man and Lee Hong Chi as Fei Li. “A love with time limit”, the plain Fei Li has one day to get close to his crush, Xi Man. When the two embark on a company trip to Finland, Xi Man gets into an accident and suffers from temporary amnesia. Under the dazzling aurora, can Fei Li’s dream come true as he attempts to get Xi Man to fall in love for real?

In theatres 31 December 2020.

Andre and His Olive Tree (Local)

A documentary on Taiwanese Michelin-starred chef André Chiang, Josiah Ng’s film illustrates the final days of his famous two-Michelin-star restaurant. The relentless chase of Michelin stars and the idea of ‘perfection’ has André thinking about the path of his life. After closing his restaurant for good in search of ‘true perfection’, André now focuses on what is truly important in life.
