Disney+ has finally arrived on our shores to much fanfare – hip hip hooray! However, let’s not forget about Netflix and the cinemas – both of which offer plenty of exciting shows to indulge in.

So if you’re feeling like March could be the month you transform into a couch potato, here are some new – and highly anticipated! – films to look forward to:

Disney+

1. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Wandavision’s new and last episode just dropped, leaving many of us with a gaping hole in our hearts. However, just stick it out a little longer – soon, the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be available for all our guilty watching pleasures! The six episodes will be released once a week, with each episode running approximately 40 to 50 minutes.

Following closely after Avengers: Endgame, the series shows how The Falcon and the Winter Soldier cope with life without Captain America. The two also join forces to take down The Flag-Smashers, a vicious anarchist group.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres on Disney+ on 19 March.

2. Raya and the Last Dragon

Simultaneously released both on Disney+ and in cinemas, Raya and the Last Dragon will be available for those with Premier Access. As with all Disney movies, you should expect nothing less than lots of swashbuckling action, top-notch animation and, to no surprise, you might even shed a tear or two.

The show is set in the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons used to peacefully coexist. However, the dragons ended up sacrificing themselves to an evil force to save humanity. Five hundred years later, the evil force makes a reappearance, pushing the Raya, the protagonist, to track down the last dragon in a last-ditch attempt to save mankind once again!

Raya and the Last Dragon premieres on Disney+ on 5 March.

Netflix

3. Sherlock Holmes

We believe that the great detective Sherlock Holmes needs no introduction. The iconic characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson come to life in this show, played by famed actors Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Join them as they put their ingenious minds to the test when faced with horrific and perplexing crimes.

Follow up the first instalment with the sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. In this movie, both Holmes and Watson try to thwart the wrath of Professor Moriarty, their sworn nemesis.

Both Sherlock Holmes movies premiere on Netflix on 1 March.

4. Moxie

A feel-good coming-of-age film, Moxie revolves around a reserved 16-year-old girl who uncovers some riot grrrl – an underground feminist punk movement in the 1990s – memorabilia from her mother’s childhood. As part of a rebellion against the sexist culture at her high school, the student then uses this material to anonymously publish a ‘zine which, in turn, kicks off a school-wide feminist movement.

Moxie premieres on Netflix on 3 March.

Cinemas

5. Minari

Minari topped the Korean box office when it was released, making it one of the most anticipated foreign films of late. The plot follows a Korean-American family who uproot themselves, and move to a small Arkansas farm. The show is full of ups and downs as the family struggle to adjust to life, complete with much frustration, conflict, and multiple heart-warming moments in between as they band together to overcome all odds. Minari took home the Best Foreign-language Film award at the recent Golden Globes.

Minari (Kor) premieres in cinemas on 11 March.

6. Counterattack

This one’s for all the action fans out there! The main character is Lu Ziming, a security professional in Southeast Asia. His boss Leon caused a fatal accident, with Ziming emerging as the only survivor. Fast forward two years, and Ziming is hired to safeguard a meeting that’s predicted to be targeted by terrorists. However, he encounters Leon during the meeting, and comes to the startling realisation that the whole meeting might be part of a larger conspiracy.

Counterattack premieres in cinemas on 18 March.
