There’s a real possibility that new iPhones with 5G capabilities will be revealed on a special event organised by Apple next Tuesday, 13 October.

No way.

Yes, Apple’s event invite on their website had the words, “Hi Speed”, which many analyst are guessing refers to a faster wireless 5G network that competitors like Google have unveiled in the recent smartphones under its Pixel brand.

This comes a bit late, no?

The holiday shopping season is usually primed for the iPhone maker’s biggest showcase of the year, but fans were disappointed when Apple delayed their announcement of the new iPhone during a virtual event held last month. The company shared instead the launch of two new wearables, the Apple Watch Series 6 and Watch SE, as well as a number of iPads, but no news of the rumoured iPhone 12.

This launch event might just be it.

I’m excited.

Many people are. According to Daniel Ives from Wedbush Securities, they are seeing an uptick around production and pent up demand for the slate of iPhone 12 models (expecting four new models) set to be unveiled next week.

There is also an expected strong demand for this phone since an estimated “350 million of 950 million iPhones worldwide […] currently in the window of an upgrade opportunity”.

What can I expect?

5G capabilities are much talked about for this launch as the brand’s main competitor, Samsung has revealed earlier this year, the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, as well as the flagship Galaxy S20 phones — all 5G phones.

The new smartphone is also rumoured to come in a boxier look, similar to that of the iPad Pro, while analysts think new over-ear wireless headphones and tags for finding lost belongings using wireless signals could also be in the horizon.

Where can I watch the launch?

Similar to Apple’s September event, this will be streamed live via their website on 13 October, 10 am P.T. or 14 October, 1 am, Singapore time.
