The Philips All-in-One 8000 garment steamer is an exciting new steaming and ironing solution that surprisingly makes ironing easier.

As I am not a big fan of ironing and I have tried various systems such as the Laurastar ironing system and Tefal’s high pressure penetrating steam systems, none could alleviate my pain until the Philips All-in-One 8000 series. It turns out to be a pleasant surprise as it is very simple to use.

Retailing at S$519, the Philips All in One 8000 Series is an ironing board and garment steamer all rolled into one.

Standing upright, the fully assembled system does not take up much space since it is tall rather than broad, like traditional ironing boards. Setting up is easy. All you need to do is to clip the various parts together. A smart hook at the top allows the clothes to be held up while you steam. I am determine to make this my default ironing position from now on because it is so convenient.

The steamer has six levels of steaming, five modes and an Eco mode. It also has a continuous steam function. The system takes about 90 seconds to be ready, making it very convenient. The board is  41.2 x 78.9 x 5.2cm and can be adjusted to various angles based on your preference. It has a 2-litre water tank that is large enough for me to refill once during my long ironing session, which is much better than the typical steam irons in the market.

The five modes vary the amounts of steam but if you want to use the least amount of steam, then click onto the Eco mode. There’s also a continuous steam mode. The iron head features what Philips calls OptimalTemp technology, which promises no burns on the fabric.

What I like about this system is when the board is in a vertical position, I can still apply pressure while steaming and it really helps remove creases and wrinkles. The garment steamer comes with a single glove to protect your hand while you hold onto your clothing. Although it provides very good heat resistance, you can still feel a little warm through the glove during prolonged use.

As I typically wear a lot of cotton and chinos, I find other steamers usually don’t do well with these types of fabrics. But I was pleasantly surprised with the Philips system as it did a good job removing the creases and wrinkles on my clothes. But if you are looking for the crisp sharp look that regular irons provide, then this garment steamer is definitely for you.

Here are two sets of before-and-after photos of a tee and a cotton shirt. They demonstrate that the Philips All-in-One 8000 Series garment steamer is able to remove most of the wrinkles and creases.

When it comes to trousers, you won’t be able to achieve that sharp crease you want, but you can still get good results by pressing the pants against the backboard. Unwanted big creases and wrinkles are easily steamed away.

Conclusion

The Philips All in One 8000 Series system ticks all my boxes in terms of speed, convenience and ease of storage. At S$519, the Philips All-in-One 8000 garment steamer may be a bit expensive but the ease-of-use, precision and powerful steam makes it worth its price.
