Christmas is the season of gifting, but even as we soak in the festive atmosphere and cosy up with our friends and family, let’s not forget the less fortunate among us. Share the Christmas joy and let’s make this Christmas as much about giving as it is about gifting! 1. Action for Singapore DogsAction for Singapore Dogs recently had their Pawsome Christmas livestream event where they introduced some of their adorable dogs who are looking for their furever homes! If you’ve some extra love to share this Christmas, do consider adopting a furry friend to give them a warm and cozy Christmas this year, and every year. Do note that a dog is a lifetime commitment and a responsibility that should not be undertaken lightly. If you’re looking to adopt a dog, ensure that you’ve done sufficient research and have enough time and money available to care for it! 2. Society of Street Dogs (SOSD)The dogs at SOSD aren’t asking for much this Christmas; all they need is a full meal, some love, and a whole lot of tummy rubs. They’ve all done their best to stay on Santa’s nice list this year, so will you help Santa out and give them a well-deserved Christmas treat? You can support SOSD by donating to their Christmas fundraising here. All proceeds from your donations will go into maintaining the shelter and providing the dogs with the care they deserve. 3. Salvation Army Christmas KettlingThe annual Salvation Army Christmas Kettling is back! While there will not be any volunteer bell-ringers this year due to the safe management measures, Salvation Army’s iconic red kettle pots can still be found in various locations islandwide (AMK Hub, Junction 8, TANGS at Tang Plaza, The Centrepoint, and ION Orchard) until 23 December. Light up a life this Christmas by dropping your donation into one of these kettle pots or donating through the SGQR code; every dollar raised will go towards transforming the lives of the needy and vulnerable in the community. Alternatively, you can also donate to the Salvation Army through www.christmaskettling.sg.4. Strengthening Youths in a Network of Care (SYNC)SYNC is a non-profit organisation started by a group of young individuals who are passionate about improving the mental wellness of children and youths in our community. In preparation for 2021, they’re releasing exclusively-designe4d calendars to raise funds for their outreach programmes and deepening support for the children and youths under their care. If you’re still looking for a last-minute gift idea? Why not support SYNC and the younger ones in our society by purchasing their adorable calendars? Psst, they also come marked with mental health awareness, prevention and celebratory days to help raise greater awareness about mental health throughout the year! You can start your 2021 off on the right foot and purchase these calendars via this link. Otherwise, SYNC is also on the lookout for volunteers who can dedicate some of their time to mentor the youths and children under their care.5. Boys’ Brigade Share-a-GiftThe annual Boys’ Brigade Share-a-Gift campaign is back this year amidst the pandemic!Mobilising over 3,500 BB Officers and Boys alongside hundreds of volunteers, the Share-a-Gift campaign hopes to spread some joy to the less fortunate among us. From now until 31 December 2020, look out for the BB Boy standees at NTUC Fairprice outlets islandwide to make your donations, or do so online here! Want to go above and beyond? You can also gift NTUC food and household hampers valued from $20 to $80 to those in need. If money is an issue, volunteer your time instead to deliver supermarket vouchers and food hampers to their 8,000 beneficiaries. Registration can be done here. Giving beyond ChristmasThere are many others out there who are in need this Christmas and beyond. The giving shouldn’t stop here.
