Andrea Chong, or more synonymously known online by her moniker Drea Chong, is Singapore’s top sweetheart influencer. The blogger has achieved top It Girl status, and yet we’re still not tired of her. Her Insta-game is #goals, from her marriage, to her modern minimalist house, and of course, her stylish fashion.
Drea has nailed down her chic style, best described as a mix of modern minimalist with a girl-next door charm. With flattering cuts, exciting prints, and exuding an edge of effortless elegance, we feel more relatable to Drea as compared to other influencers and celebrities who dress up in glamorous and luxury brands. We can almost picture ourselves running into her at our Sunday brunch and she wouldn’t look out of place.
Even though she glams it up for big occasions, Drea’s everyday style comprises of affordable brands and timeless silhouettes that works nicely for every and any occasion. Here’s what you can learn from her as you discover your own style!
More tops, less bottoms
Drea’s go-to is a white tank with thin straps as it can be paired with outerwear or layered over items. Especially when you’re travelling, packing more tops is a way to save space but get more looks. Change a top and it’s like a whole new outfit!
Sneakers go with EVERYTHING
The right pair of sneakers are comfy, stylish, and versatile.
As Drea tells 8Days in an exclusive interview, “Gone are the stereotypes of needing to wear heels with gowns. We see modern brides wearing silver or embellished sneakers with their gowns, and people wearing sport sneakers with flowy dresses during fashion week, so I think sneakers can be introduced if the cut, material, fabric and colour of the shoe fits the overall outfit!”
Even if you need to wear heels for a party, bringing along a pair of sneakers to change into after.
Invest in high quality basics
$50 for a basic knit top might seem very overpriced compared to a $5 one off Taobao. But when your $50 top fits nicely, doesn’t stretch in the wash, and stains comes off cleanly, it’ll have paid for itself many times over than that $5 one you never touched again because it shrunk in the wash.
Use neutrals and muted hues to stand out
Muted hues are too underrated for their versatility. Use them with neutrals for understated elegance, or pair them one a brighter hue to create a subtle yet powerful statement.
Certain hues also have optimum pairings. Pale pinks go well with blacks and florals, beige sits well with whites and olives, while off-white is a nice duo for corals and blue stripes.
Take it further with matching sets
Wearing two piece sets might seem a bit overwhelming, but they can be mixed with your wardrobe staples as accents. Once in while, go bold and wear them together as a set!
Look for prints like florals, plaid and textures to keep it timeless.
Play with print on print
Most people tend to avoid matching prints with prints as it can get very messy. The secret is to pick two matching prints that complement each other, not clash. Ensure that the rest of your outfits is neutrals, but accented with colours from the prints.
Elevate your outfit from everyday office wear to weekend glam by accessorising
Instead of a quick closet change, slight tweaks are all you need to get it going. Swap the office bag and mules for a cheeky sling and stilettos for an instant oomph. One outfit, many looks!
