Calling all foodies! As we all know, plenty of factors contribute to an eating experience these days – just the taste of the food alone doesn’t cut it; now patrons take into account the ambience, variety, instagrammable-factor, layout and more.
Here are some places we have rounded up that hit the mark:
1. 1-Atico
Feel on the top of the world at 1-Atico, which is high up at ION Sky, which occupies the 55th and 56th floor of ION Orchard. Boasting 360-degree panoramic views, 1-Altico takes the phrase ‘dining with a view’ to a whole new level. Full-length floor to ceiling windows let in plenty of natural light, with a stunning domed alcove forming the centrepiece.
Looks aside, the space is home to three different dining establishments. Check out FIRE, a hearty Argentinian restaurant that specialises in smoky wood-fired dishes. FLNT, on the other hand, is an innovative Japanese-Peruvian gastrobar. Comprising Singapore’s only Nikkei-influenced sumiyaki bar and grill, where Nikkei refers to individuals of Japanese ancestry who have brought their culinary influences to other parts of the world. Finally, indulge in a nightcap at the classy Atico Lounge, which has only just opened its doors this month!

2. Cornercove
Eat well, live well – such is the mantra that many of us live by. Think of superfoods, and acai immediately comes to mind. After all, what’s not to like about that wholesome bowl that’s packed with delicious nutrients?
Located in City Gate at Beach Road, Cornercove is a charming and aesthetic café that serves up customisable acai bowls. The acai bowls come in two sizes, which cost $9.80 and $14.80 respectively. There are plenty of bases to choose from, such as Matcha, Turmeric, Coconut, or even Strawberry Chocolate Protein. Once you’ve chosen your base, smother it with a large array of toppings. Think almond and cashew butters, all types of fruits, goji berries, coconut flakes, espresso powder, and much, much more! Plus, did we mention that the toppings are unlimited? Go all out, and wash it down with an ice-cold coffee or cold-pressed juice.

3. Gogiyo
Say Annyeonghaseyo to Gogiyo, a Korean food joint serving affordable and tasty Korean fare. The first outlet in Toa Payoh opened in December 2020, with the second outlet following shortly after in March 2021! The second outlet can be found at Clementi, comprising a humble stall in a coffeeshop.
Offering “good quality and affordable Korean food”, Gogiyo boasts plenty of variety. Dig into a variety of rice bowls – Bulgogi beef bowl or spicy kimchi chicken bowl, anyone? – hearty army stews, or pamper yourself with a satisfying Korean barbeque. The best part? Nothing at this stall (including the Korean barbeque) is above $30!

4. Kumoya Café
Call them gimmicky or overrated, but it’s no secret that themed cafés are here to stay. Let’s face it, who doesn’t love being surrounded by all things adorable? From 12 March 2021, Kumoya Café at Orchard Central has been taken over by all things Sumikko Gurashi. A set of popular Japanese cartoon characters, who are known for loving to live their lives quietly in the corner. The main characters include Shirokuma, a shy bear; Penguin?, a doubtful penguin; Neko, a timid cat; Tokage, the last of the dinosaurs; and more.
Decked out in soothing pastel colours, every part of the café is splashed with the adorable character motifs. The food is adorable as well; check out the Shirokuma and Furoshiki Sweet Bed Time Beef Stew, which features Shirokuma tucked under a blanket, and snoozing on a bed of stew. The Gone Fishing Tokage Salmon Croquette Cream Rice is worth a mention as well, where a cute Tokage made out of rice is fishing for carrot fishes in a sea of cream.

5. Roxy
With travel plans pretty much thrown out the window for the past year, us Singaporeans have been suffering from a severe case of #wanderlust. Enter Roxy, a spanking new cocktail bar that will transport you to New York’s Rock and Roll era of the 1970’s – which might just allow you to momentarily forget that you’re still in Singapore.
Located at the Sail at Marina Bay, Roxy isn’t easy to find. Enter through a passageway in the back on Miss Fitz Kitchen + Bar, or through an unmarked door at the Sail. Step into a world of class that’s bathed in a reddish hue, with each cocktail on the menu telling a different story. Spoil yourself with a cocktail flight – going for about $45+ to $55+ – where you’ll be able to sample three different variations of a classic cocktail. Spend the night chatting with the bartenders, trying the different tipples, and simply soaking in the atmosphere of this hidden gem.
