Singapore’s most highly-anticipated free alternative music festival is back with a bang! Baybeats 2020 features an electrifying line-up of 24 sets bound to get your fists pumping, heads banging, and hearts racing!
Can’t wait! When should I set my alarm for?
Baybeats 2020 will run from 6 to 8 November (Friday to Sunday), from 7 p.m. to 12.30 a.m. daily.
Where will it be held?
Adhering to government regulations, the music festival will take on an online format for the first time in its 19 iterations. The event will be live streamed from Esplanade’s Concert Hall and Theatre for your enjoyment from the comforts of your own home.
For an enhanced experience, the Baybeats team will be experimenting with a two-way live stream experience; audiences will not just get to witness the bands live, but the bands will also get to see their audience through screen projections around the stage as they are performing — facilitating a more interactive experience for all.
The event line-up comprises 24 acts, with a mix of both local bands as well as international acts.
Festival goers can look forward to homegrown bands like .gif, ABANGSAPAU, M1LDL1FE, and Opposition Party (among others), as well as international acts from Indonesia (Bedchamber, Bottlesmoker), Philippines (Hilera, Zild, Basti Artadi), and the US (Cloakroom).
The diverse line-up covers genres ranging from folk to metal, and everything in between. It doesn’t matter whether you’re looking for music that soothes your soul or music to rock your world; there’s bound to be something in this three-day festival for you!
Moreover, as part of Baybeats’ Budding Bands program, six up-and-coming local bands will also be performing during the three-day festival. Namely, these bands are Allegiance, Approaching Aphelion, per[sona, Remnants, Spacewalk, and Terrestrea.
These bands had previously undergone intensive auditions and are part of Baybeats’ initiative to discover and showcase local bands. They will not just be afforded the opportunity to perform in this pre-eminent music festival, but also get to hone their skills in a mentorship programme with prominent local musicians!
Love the initiative! What else can I look forward to?
Aside from the main festival line-up, attendees can also look forward to interacting with their favourite musicians and bands through Chillout Sessions that will be held on Instagram Live.
These sessions will be held throughout the three-day festival, with two 20-minute slots per day (7.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.), and will allow the audience to get up-close and personal with selected artists as they play games and chat about their work, their lives, and everything under the sun.
Most importantly, how can I attend the festival?
All you have to do is set your alarms, ensure you have a decent internet connection, and get online when the time comes!
Better yet, Baybeats has suggested that a few lucky souls will get the opportunity to attend the festival in person! While details of this has yet to be released, interested parties can stay tuned to their social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram) or their main webpage for more information.
