In the blink of an eye, we’re down to the last weekend of March! Here are some activities to make this precious weekend count:
1. Changi Jurassic Mile
Many of us would be familiar with the 3.5-kilometre connector between Changi Airport and East Coast Park, which is famously home to the Changi Jurassic Mile. Comprising a one-kilometre section, the Changi Jurassic Mile is lined with more than 20 different prehistoric creatures, promising anyone a roaring good time!
Now, a few months down the road, even more dinosaurs have been added to the repertoire, with 11 new dinosaur displays available for viewing. See if you can spot the 3.9-metre-tall Tyrannosaurus Rex, or even the 3.5-metre-tall Diplodocus that’s coloured an alluring shade of pink. If you’d like, you can even rent a bicycle from the GoCycling bike store at Changi Airport Terminal 2 too!
2. Singapore Botanic Gardens’ Gallop Extension
It seems like our Botanic Gardens’ just keep getting better and better! This weekend, check out the brand spanking new 8-hectare Gallop Extension, which contains a nature-themed playground and two conserved houses.
Marvel at Singapore’s oldest surviving black-and-white bungalow, which was built in 1898. It now contains the Forest Discovery Centre @ OCBC Arboretum, which has an exhibit of the country’s forest ecosystems. The other bungalow showcases a gallery, consisting of Singapore’s first permanent display of botanical art. The playground, otherwise known as the Como Adventure Grove Playgarden, is a fantastical nature wonderland modelled after the aerial root system of a mature weeping fig tree. The playground itself is a sight to behold, complete with various rope courses, and a long tunnel slide. The best part? The entire Gallop extension is absolutely free to visit!
3. Amazing Chambers Singapura Escape Room
Looking for a fun activity for the whole family? An escape room experience might be just it. Allowing participants to work together to figure out a bunch of clues and navigate their way through – and out! – of the room(s), an escape room extravaganza is a sheer test of smarts, instinct and, at times, pure luck.
There are many types of escape rooms available; take your pick from Harry Potter themed ones, ones that take place in a creepy morgue, and so on. However, the Amazing Chambers Singapura Escape Room takes it up a notch with their localised offerings, where you can navigate through the mysteries of the Sisters Islands, or fight the battle of Bukit Chandu. What’s more, their ongoing promotion allows participants to play 2 games for the price of 1. There’s really no better time to visit!
4. Taberu Tohoku Tour
If there’s one thing that we miss about Japan, it’d definitely be the food. On 27th March, join the Japan Rail Café as they take you on an invigorating virtual food tour around the Tohoku region! The tour is split into two parts, with the first installment happening this Saturday, and the next one happening on 10th April.
Tune into their Facebook Live programme for free at 10.30am, where you’ll be brought through a brief introduction of the itinerary. At 11am, discover the beautiful Sanriku Coast, which is famous for their Uni Bento and Bindon. At 1pm, embark on a scenic railway ride down JR East’s Kamaishi Line, and make various foodie stops along the way. At 3pm, venture to Hotel Metropolital Sendai, and the new JR Fruits Park ARAHAMA, to immerse yourself in all things strawberries. Finally, at 5pm, discover the flavours of Akita, and learn all about their Nmemono (“delicious foods”).
5. Arts in Your Neighbourhood 2021
Watch as the Pasir Ris neighbourhood comes alive with the National Arts Council’s Arts in Your Neighbourhood 2021. This weekend is your last chance to catch the performances and installations in action, as everything will be wrapped up after 28th March.
Indulge in puppetry shows, go trigger happy at various photo opportunities, or even enjoy an online orchestral performance that’s synced with sound recordings of birds. Don’t miss out on Api Api’s Dreams, a lovely light projection display at White Sands Shopping Centre.
